Day 1: Lalibela churches
Take the morning flight from addis in the afternoon 2pm or 2:30, after hotel check in & lunch, we will start visiting the first group of the magnificent rock-hewn churches of Lalibela which are carved out of living volcanic tuff with super architectural skill that the world has never seen yet elsewhere. UNESCO registerd these churches as world heritage. Among churches of this group Bete Medahine Alem (house of the redeemer) is the biggest Rock-hewn church in the world with 5 aisles, 72 pillars, vaulted dome and molding decoration. Bete Mariam (house of St. Marry) is the most decorated among the rock hewn churches.
Finally, visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis, a huge monolithic in the shape of a cross, and constructed in honor of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia carved out of the ground, and shaped from the inside out, it is one, unbroken piece of stone, All parts of the church – the doors, windows, domes, pillars, were chiseled out by hand from the natural rock. and is connected to the other sunken stone churches through a series of elaborate tunnels.
Day 2: Next morning Lalibela Addis
7:30 AM or 8AM, till 10am for about 2 hours Before your flight with no rush continue to visit the Southeastern Cluster of Lalibela churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Lehem (Bethlehem Hebrew: בֵּית לֶחֶם House of Holy Bread) Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos ( which resembles petra in Jordan) While on tour visiting the churches you may see the church service if there is. Then see you off to Lalibela airport for your flight to Addis.
